The tensions between Qatar and some of its Gulf neighbours could ratchet up following Doha’s decision to leave OPEC.
Qatar joined the cartel in 1961 and will officially leave it in January 2019. The move will not have much of an impact on OPEC’s decision-making process or its oil production capacity. Although Qatar has dismissed suggestions the move is a result of ongoing tensions with some of its Gulf neighbours, it is becoming evident that this factor has played a part.
