Ivory Coast is still a long way from meeting its goal of generating 2 GW of power by 2020. However, it is making headway with plans to import LNG to meet rising domestic and regional electricity demand.
Independent power producer Endeavor Energy launched an EPC tender for the Songon gas-fired power project at the end of April. The US-based company and its local partner Starenergie plan to install an FSRU leased from Excelerate Energy to import LNG for a 375 MW gas-fired power plant, to be based outside Abidjan, the country’s economic capital. Endeavor has signed a preliminary agreement with Shell to supply the LNG for the project.
