Shipping gas to Europe via the proposed Nord Stream 2 pipeline could help Russia compete with LNG from the United States for market share, experts have said.

According to James Henderson, senior research fellow at the Oxford Institute for Energy Studies (OIES), Russian gas delivered via Nord Stream reaches Europe at $4.00/MMBtu. This makes it the cheapest route into Europe as it avoids Ukraine’s $1.50/MMBtu transit fee.
