The prospects of Abu Dhabi building a permanent onshore LNG terminal are receding fast, with surging near-term demand forcing the authorities to double down on FSRU capacity instead.

Reports from the United Arab Emirates in early May indicated that plans for Emirates LNG, a 9 mtpa land-based terminal in Fujairah, had been postponed indefinitely. The project is a joint venture between Mubadala Petroleum and the International Petroleum Investment Co. (IPIC).
