The ousting of Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff will speed up the opening of the country’s pre-salt sector to private companies and relieve the pressure on beleaguered state-run giant Petrobras, experts have said.
Brazil’s Senate voted to impeach Rousseff on Wednesday, suspending the leftist leader from office for 180 days. The process now returns to the country’s Congress, which is likely to vote to remove Rousseff from office permanently. Lower house lawmakers voted overwhelmingly in support of impeachment on 17 April.
