
Latvian politician and diplomat Andris Piebalgs was EU commissioner for energy between 2004 and 2009. Speaking to Interfax Natural Gas Daily, Piebalgs warned that EU countries could face disruptions to their supplies of Russian gas unless a new transit agreement between Kiev and Moscow is signed before the winter of 2019/2020.
Interfax Natural Gas Daily: You said in a recent paper for the European University Institute that the EU’s sanctions against Russia will make financing megaprojects such as Nord Stream 2 and Turkish Stream more difficult. Could you elaborate on this? Do you think it will be difficult for Gazprom to secure the loans it needs to carry out these projects?
