Foshan in China’s southern Guangdong province is seeking a direct connection to the second West-East Pipeline (WEP II), operated by PetroChina, a move that would allow it to bypass the provincial gas grid and avoid huge transit fees.

Foshan, a fast-growing city of 7.2 million people that shares its built-up urban area with Guangzhou, currently sources WEP gas through Guangdong Natural Gas Grid (GNGG), the provincial gas pipeline operator.
