Petronas is gearing up to commission the world’s first floating LNG production unit, which will be used to tap remote and stranded gas fields in Malaysia.

The floating LNG plant was dubbed Petronas Floating LNG 1 in a naming ceremony earlier this month in Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering’s shipyard in South Korea, where building work is almost complete. The plant, which is also known as PFLNG Satu, is expected to make its maiden voyage in the second quarter of 2016.
