Myanmar is preparing to use a larger share of its domestic gas production to fuel an expanding fleet of gas-fired power plants in a bid to meet the country’s growing demand for electricity.
As many as 12 new gas-fired power plants, with a total installed capacity of 1.26 GW, have obtained the necessary government approval and are either in the preparatory stages of construction or are being built, according to the country’s Ministry of Electric Power (MOEP).
