Japan’s plans to reintroduce nuclear energy as a key element of its long-term power generation mix are in limbo after a district court in the Fukui prefecture blocked the restart of two reactors in the city of Takahama.

The ruling could see gas, coal and renewables all claim a larger share of Japan’s future generation mix, and could spark further legal opposition to the restarts.
