Network congestion is still hampering the development of efficient wholesale gas markets in Europe, according to a study carried out by the Agency for the Cooperation of Energy Regulators (ACER).

Contractual congestion – where demand for transmission capacity exceeds technical capacity – was identified at 17% of 246 entry and exit points for interconnectors across the EU in 2015, according to ACER’s annual congestion report, released this week.
