Saudi Aramco discovered five new oil and gas fields last year, including two non-associated gas fields. The state-owned company also found three new gas reservoirs in its existing fields, according to its annual report.

The newly discovered non-associated gas fields are Edmee, west of Haradh, and Murooj in Rub’ al-Khali – a desert area known as the Empty Quarter, where recent exploration yielded disappointing results. Shell shelved its sour gas plans in the Kidan area of the Empty Quarter in 2014.
