Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) has called for major changes to the country’s LNG and pipeline infrastructure as part of an attempt to establish a Japanese LNG trading hub by the early 2020s.

Expanding the country’s LNG and pipeline infrastructure was one of six courses of action the ministry announced at a meeting of the G7 energy ministers earlier this month. The ministry’s plans are all aimed at increasing the flexibility of the LNG market and encouraging trading.
