South Korea’s LNG demand is in decline and could fall further following the recent announcement of plans to stop using CNG in public transport. Finance minister Yoo Il-ho said last month that the country’s 30,000 CNG buses will be replaced by fuel cell vehicles (FCVs) running on hydrogen over the next 15 years.

The transport sector accounts for around 2.6% of South Korea’s gas demand, and buses make up 78% of all CNG vehicles. As the CNG buses are phased out, demand for gas is expected to decline.
