EC gas solidarity proposal raises questions

Analysts have questioned the ‘solidarity principle’ proposed by Brussels whereby EU member states would be obliged to supply gas to neighbouring countries in crisis situations.

The European Commission’s proposed legislative package on gas security – which was released in mid-February – said supplying gas to households, schools and hospitals in neighbouring countries during a crisis should take preference over supplying industrial end-users.
