South African petrochemical giant Sasol is considering importing LNG to replace the diesel Eskom is burning in its open-cycle turbines and is in discussions with the South African government about building onshore LNG import facilities, Miningmx reported Sasol Chief Executive David Constable as saying.

Sasol also plans to sign three- to five-year power purchase agreements with state-owned utility Eskom for the supply of 375-400 MW of power.

Sasol produces around 1.1 GW of electricity from its steam boilers at its plants in Sasolburg and Secunda, the news site reported.
