Skikda replacement train starts up (January): The GL 2K train at the Skikda complex started up in late January 2014, according to press reports. GL 2K is a single-train facility with a 4.5 mtpa capacity and is a replacement for the trains destroyed by an explosion and fire in 2004.

PNG LNG comes online ahead of schedule (May): The PNG LNG plant came online three months ahead of schedule, sending out its first cargo in late May, according to operator ExxonMobil (see PNG LNG sends out first shipments, 26 June 2014). The 6.9 mtpa liquefaction plant, which is located northwest of Port Moresby, sold a number of cargoes to the spot market before its long-term contracts took effect.

Lampung FSRU receives its first cargo (August): Indonesia's Lampung FSRU received its first cargo in August, having docked in May (see Lampung receives first cargo, 5 August 2014). The cargo was delivered on board the Neo Energy, a 150,000 cubic metre capacity carrier chartered by BG Group originating from the BP-operated Tangguh plant in West Papua.

Hainan LNG receives its inaugural cargo (August): China National Offshore Oil Corp. (CNOOC), the country's biggest LNG buyer, received its inaugural cargo at the Hainan LNG terminal in August, marking the start of pre-commission checks at the $1.05 billion facility (see CNOOC receives inaugural cargo at $1 bln Hainan terminal, 8 August 2014). The 90,000 ton cargo arrived at the terminal on board the 210,000 cubic metre carrier Rasheeda, from Qatar.

Independence FSRU arrives in port of Klaipeda (October): Lithuania welcomed the Independence FSRU to Klaipeda in late October, marking the delivery of the Baltic region's first non-Russian conduit for gas imports (see Baltics welcome Independence into Lithuanian port, 27 October 2014). The FSRU received a pilot delivery from the 160,000 cubic metre Golar Seal with the first commercial cargoes expected in January. The terminal will have a capacity of 4 billion cubic metres per year.

Hibiki LNG terminal starts up (October): The Saibu Gas operated LNG terminal at Hibiki received one of its first cargoes on 21 October from the 148,000 cubic metre capacity Energy Advance. The cargo was delivered under a long-term contract from Tokyo Gas. The vessel was loaded at Russia's Sakhalin 2 LNG project, according to a tweet from Mark Renton, LNG & Oil Analyst at Lloyds List Intelligence.

Algeria's second replacement train starts up (November): Algeria's Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal officially opened the new GNL 3Z complex at Arzew (Oran) in November, according to the Algeria Press Service. The complex was planned to come online in 2013, but has suffered delays with little information emerging about its progress over the course of the year. The 4.5 mtpa train replaces the GL 4Z complex – Algeria's first terminal, which was brought online in 1964 and decommissioned in 2010.

Qingdao terminal starts up (November): Sinopec's first LNG terminal at Qingdao in Shandong province received its commissioning cargo in November from Atlantic LNG (see Sinopec close to starting up first LNG terminal, 16 September 2014). The cargo was delivered on board the Maran Gas Coronis and was purchased from BG Group. The terminal will start sending gas into the grid in early December. It will start receiving cargoes from PNG LNG in December as Sinopec holds a 2 mtpa offtake agreement with the plant.

Arun LNG sends out its final cargo (October): Indonesia's Arun LNG plant loaded its last LNG cargo on 15 October this year, fulfilling its contract with Korea's Kogas, according to press reports. The plant is in the process of being turned into a regasification plant and is expected to take receipt of its first shipment early next year (see Indonesia regas capacity on track for 2014 startup, 28 March 2014, and Indonesia's Arun LNG terminal begins construction, 4 December 2014).
