Ukraine not yet free of Russian gas

Although the close of the heating season this month marks the end of Ukraine’s first winter without direct supplies of Russian gas, Kiev still needs to factor in Gazprom exports to Europe and the excess capacity available in neighbouring EU markets, analysts have said.

As of 23 April, Ukraine had 8.67 billion cubic metres of gas in storage, up by 7.7% year on year, as companies across Europe switch from making withdrawals to injections as the weather warms.
