China considering longer subsidies for shale and CBM

Industry players and experts have long chafed at China’s patchy policy support for unconventional gas development. However, it now seems the central government is looking to increase policy certainty by considering extending shale gas and CBM subsidies for another 20 years.

The government is discussing the possibility of extending production subsidies for shale gas and CBM until 2035, Tang Tingchuan, director of development strategy at China National Petroleum Corp.’s Policy Research Office, said at the China Unconventional Oil and Gas Summit in Beijing last week.
