Qatar leaves its mark on Dutch market

The recent ramp-up of Qatari LNG exports to the Netherlands is another sign the Gulf state is looking to strengthen its position in the European market before the arrival of competing cargoes from the United States.

The Netherlands’ net LNG imports doubled to 630,000 tons in 2015 – a 50% increase year on year. However, imports from Qatar were up nearly sevenfold – from 90,000 tons in 2014 to 610,000 tons in 2015.
