Eskom suspends CEO and top executives
The board of South African state-owned power utility Eskom has asked four of its senior executives – including Tshediso Matona, the company’s chief executive – to step down during the course of an independent investigation into its poor performance.
The board commissioned an inquiry to look into the performance of Eskom’s power plants, the delays bringing new capacity onstream, the high costs of energy and cash flow problems.
The other executives who have been asked to step down while the enquiry is underway are Finance Director Tsholofelo Molefe, Group Capital Executive Dan Marokane and Commercial and Technology Executive Matshela Koko.
One of the current non-executive board members, Zethembe Khoza, has been asked to assume the position of interim chief executive.
