Japan’s slowing economy and the spread of solar power are set to dent gas demand growth in the world’s largest LNG importer, while the return of shuttered nuclear plants will further cut consumption by utilities from 2015.

Despite Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s plans to kickstart the economy with a programme of massive monetary and fiscal stimulus, the country fared worse than expected between July and September this year.
