LNG export projects in the United States are staring at problems of their own making. In the process of reaping the benefits of the shale gas revolution, US LNG suppliers have flooded the global marketplace. While this has increased liquidity in the spot market – depressing spot prices – it has also spelled financial trouble for many project developers and LNG marketers. Consequently, US LNG suppliers are slowly changing tack. Instead of keeping the market oversupplied, they are becoming more interested in managing it.
