Rising interest in using LNG as a shipping fuel looks to have spurred Japan’s Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL) – one of the largest shipping companies in the world – to sign a joint study agreement (JSA) with Transborders Energy, which is pioneering a small-volume FLNG concept offshore Western Australia.

Announced on Monday, it is the third such agreement to be signed between a Japanese company and Perth-based Transborders for the project, and a strong endorsement of its economic viability and buyer appeal. Kyushu...
