Reserves

At the beginning of 2011, Australia's economic demonstrated resources (EDR) and sub-economic demonstrated resources of conventional gas were estimated at 4.44 trillion cubic metres (173,000 petajoules). At current production rates, there is sufficient EDR (2.92 tcm, 113,400 PJ) of conventional gas to last another 54 years. Between 1980 and 2010, Australia’s EDR increased by an average 9% per year.

CBM EDR increased at a rate of 56% per year between 2000 and 2010. CBM EDR was estimated at 923 billion cubic metres at the end of 2011. Total identified tight gas resources are estimated at 566 bcm and technically recoverable shale gas resources are estimated at 11.2 tcm. This is equal to around 184 years of gas at current production rates.
