Bolivia gets political with ‘new discovery’

Bolivia’s President Evo Morales has welcomed a huge gas discovery as a nice ‘surprise’ for his country, which is struggling to boost reserves. But it is not quite as it seems.

Claims made by the Bolivian government of a major gas discovery in the south of the country appear misleading and premature.

Bolivian authorities last week heralded what they described as a "new discovery" of 113 billion cubic metres of gas by explorer Repsol, but Natural Gas Daily has learned the claim was technically inaccurate – it referred instead to the results of the company’s seismic campaign.
