Europe’s carbon dioxide emissions fell last year, but some of the region’s biggest energy consumers are not on track to meet their 2020 emission reduction targets. Following the European Parliament elections at the end of May, in which parties calling for faster emissions reductions did well, the EU may now put greater pressure on countries to address their shortfalls.
