The Netherlands is highly dependent on gas – and while the government is aiming to reduce the country’s use of the fuel, domestic production is falling faster than consumption. This has resulted in the country becoming a net importer of gas. The Netherlands is calling for the EU to target having a carbon-neutral energy system by 2050.
