EU member states will be obliged to share gas in crisis situations from this winter onwards after the ‘solidarity law’ passed its last legislative hurdle on Tuesday.
The revised security of supply gas regulation 994/2010 was backed by a clear majority of 567 MEPs in a plenary session in Strasbourg. The Council of the EU – which is co-legislator on the file – has already informally approved the text and is expected to formally adopt it within weeks.
