Forward and futures markets
The Henry Hub front-month futures price is expected to reach $4/MMBtu by the end of December, helped by a cold start to the winter in the US.
The Henry Hub front-month price has not moved above $4/MMBtu since December 2014, and the recent frigid weather is set to continue through the rest of December. The TDD figure in the US is expected to average 789F over the month, much higher than the 607F average in December 2015 and the highest December average since 2013. Consequently, the front-month has averaged $3.54/MMBtu so far this month, a 73% increase on an annual basis and its highest monthly average since November 2014. GGA forecasts the price will average $3.6/MMBtu in December 2016 and $4/MMBtu in January 2017.
