The Council of the EU on Tuesday formally adopted the revised 2030 targets for renewables and energy efficiency.
The headline 2030 targets are 32.5% for energy efficiency and 32% for renewables, up from 27% previously.
The ministers also signed the so-called ‘governance regulation’ which will oblige EU member states to draw up national energy plans.
The council’s adoption marks the end of the legislative process as the European Parliament formally adopted the targets in November.
The revised targets were agreed in principle in June this year.
