The United States is tightening its grip on the small-scale LNG market in the Caribbean, with a New York-based private equity giant overseeing both exports and imports of the fuel in Jamaica.

Jamaica took delivery of an FSU last week and the country’s regasification terminal in Montego Bay is scheduled to start up within months. US-based New Fortress Energy, which has chartered the Golar Arctic vessel for two years, won a contract to supply local utility Jamaica Public Service (JPS) last year. New Fortress is backed by the equity arm of Fortress Investment Group.
