Germany’s two biggest utilities posted contrasting financial results for the first half of 2016 this week, but analysts are reserving judgement on the long-term prospects of E.On and RWE, with both companies set to undergo significant restructuring in the coming months.
E.On reported a net loss of €3 billion ($3.3 billion) in the six months to the end of June as a result of impairment charges on two power stations, gas-storage facilities and provisions for contingent losses amounting to €3.8 billion.
