Algeria’s selection of Noureddine Boutarfa as its new energy minister may lead to domestic reforms and a scaling back of the country’s renewable energy aspirations, a move that would likely benefit the country’s gas sector.

President Abdelaziz Bouteflika named Boutarfa as the new energy minister on Saturday as part of a cabinet shakeup in which he also appointed a new finance minister.
