Global coal demand is forecast to rise by less than 1% between 2017 and 2023, to roughly 4.6 billion tons of coal equivalent, according to the International Energy Agency. The two biggest markets for coal, China and India, accounted for 60% and 12% of its use respectively in 2017. However, China’s share of the coal market is expected to decline.
