The key issue: Italy has introduced incentives for the production of biomethane and bio-LNG that has provided a boost to planned production plants across the country.

Interfax analysis: The increasing number of projects designed to produce and liquefy biomethane in Italy suggests a larger proportion of the country’s gas demand than previously thought will be met with biomethane instead of natural gas.

Biomethane can be injected into the gas grid, consumed as a vehicle fuel or used for combined-heat-and-power generation.
