The Danish Energy Agency’s (DEA’s) decision to ask the developer of the Nord Stream 2 pipeline to consider a third route for its Danish section will give Kiev a stronger negotiating position during talks on the renewal of the Russia-Ukraine gas transit contract beyond 2019.

On Thursday, the DEA asked Nord Stream 2 AG to file a permit application for a new route outside of Danish territorial waters to the southeast of the Danish island of Bornholm.
