The dependence of the US and Canada on stored gas is set to grow in 2017, even though the 2016-2017 winter was mild.

An increase in gas demand from industries in states such as Louisiana in the South Central Region (SCR) of the US will mean the country will need to make net gas withdrawals during summer, despite the fact that the US as a whole will still be in the injection season. The SCR made net gas drawdowns in 12 of the 31 weeks of the 2016 injection season.
