EU-Canada deal to sidestep investor rules for now

An investor clause that would allow North American companies to challenge environmental legislation in EU countries will probably not be included in the EU-Canada trade agreement, at least for the time being.

The Slovakian Presidency of the EU Council said in mid-July that it would try to get the EU-Canada Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) signed in October, and that the controversial rules will not be included in the provisional application of the agreement.
