Caricatured as top-heavy, slow-moving and not particularly adept to change, the United States oil and gas industry is increasingly turning to ex-military personnel to take the lead when it comes to cutting costs.

Since the downturn set in, oil and gas companies have asked all employees to cut costs, but veterans seem particularly well suited to the job.
