Latvia under pressure on EU unbundling rules

The European Commission has told Latvia it will not be exempt from EU Third Energy Package (TEP) rules on unbundling once the country can receive gas via its Baltic neighbour Lithuania.

In a letter sent to Latvia’s Ministry of Economics, the commission argues a pipeline linking Lithuania’s Klaipeda FSRU with infrastructure close to the Latvian border removes the country’s status as an ‘energy island’, dependent on pipeline deliveries from Gazprom.
