Europe’s gas consumption is expected to rise over H2 2016, supported by strong power sector growth in key markets.
The combined gas demand from Europe’s six largest markets is expected to increase by around 5% year on year in H2. Rising demand in the UK has been leading the expansion in European consumption this year. Greater demand from the country’s power sector has supported growth – a trend that is expected to continue over the coming months. Although initial forecasts suggest temperatures in October and November are likely to be around or above average in much of the UK, the weather could turn colder by the end of the year. The UK’s gas consumption is expected to rise by around 8% year on year in H2.
