Turkmenistan proposes gas pipeline to China via Afghanistan

By Staff reporter 4 July 2017

Turkmenistan has suggested developing a gas export route to China via Afghanistan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan.

The initiative, which was put forward by Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov during a meeting with his Afghan counterpart Ashraf Ghani, would involve laying a second pipeline through Afghanistan in addition to the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India project.

Kabul supports Ashgabat's proposal, Ghani said during the talks, which were broadcast on Turkmen television.
