China sees big role for geothermal in energy mix

China’s development of geothermal energy is set to accelerate over the next four years to help meet the country’s renewable energy targets and improve air quality, experts said at a conference last week.
China is aiming to increase the share of renewables in its primary energy mix from 12% to 15% by the end of the 13th Five-Year Plan period in 2020, with geothermal accounting for one percentage point of this growth, said Cao Yaofeng from the Chinese Academy of Engineering.
