Oman is set to diversify its generation mix, as bidders have been prequalified for the country’s first utility-scale, 500 MW solar PV plants to be located at Ibri, 300 km west of Muscat. In addition, the country is planning to build a 1.2 GW clean-coal project in Duqm, around 530 km south of Muscat. Oman’s power fleet consists entirely of gas-fired power plants.
