Forecasts for milder temperatures in most of Europe in the first half of March will ease pressure on electricity demand in the coming weeks. Temperatures recovered from 4 March after a Siberian weather system boosted heating demand in the last week of February.
Even though the cold snap was relatively modest compared with historical records in some key countries, it arrived late in the winter, altering the seasonal supply and demand pattern compared with last year.
