Algeria is pressing on with plans to develop domestic shale gas resources despite ongoing difficulties in attracting IOCs to the country’s upstream sector.

Among a number of IOC agreements announced at the Algeria Future Energy summit in Algiers on Monday, state-owned Sonatrach said it had signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with a joint venture of BP and Equinor to explore the Tadmait shale concession in the shale-prone In Salah Basin in the Sahara desert.
