Japan is set to bring further nuclear capacity online over the next few months, which will weigh on gas demand from the power sector.

The Osaka High Court has ruled against an injunction that forced Kansai Electric to shut down reactors 3 and 4 at its Takahama nuclear power plant in March 2016. The injunction had been imposed by the Otsu District Court almost immediately after the two reactors had restarted operations following a case brought forward by local residents. The district court injunction had been imposed because the court ruled that safety requirements had not been met, but the high court found the allegations were unsubstantiated.
