Qatar Petroleum (QP) took an FID this month on the 15.6 mtpa Golden Pass LNG export project in the United States, the first such decision for a liquefaction facility so far in 2019. The project will be developed in tandem with work to expand the capacity of the giant Ras Laffan plant in Qatar from 77 mtpa to 110 mtpa. The first train at Golden Pass, which QP is building with the project’s other stakeholder ExxonMobil, is expected to be commissioned in 2024.
