China National Petroleum Corp.’s (CNPC’s) pledge to more than double gas output at its Southwest Oil and Gas Field unit in Sichuan province by 2025 underlines how the NOC is pulling out all the stops to boost domestic production.

CNPC said on Friday that the subsidiary aims to increase output to 50 billion cubic metres per year by 2025, up from a target of 30 bcm/y by 2020 and against output of 22.63 bcm in 2018. The NOC plans to deploy more advanced...
